Vibe Coding for Production
Model Context Protocol (MCP)Try an MCP

Dometrain MCP

Wire Claude Code to the public Dometrain MCP server, search courses, learning paths, and blog posts without an API key.

Dometrain hosts a public MCP server you can attach to Claude Code in a few commands. It exposes tools to search and read Dometrain courses, learning paths, blog posts, pricing, and certificate-related helpers, useful for grounding answers about training content instead of guessing titles or URLs.

Endpoint (HTTP MCP): https://catalog-mcp.dometrain.com/mcp

The service advertises no auth for anonymous access; tools include search_courses, get_course, list_learning_paths, list_recent_blog_posts, get_certificate, and get_pricing. If the tool list changes, open /mcp in Claude Code after connecting and read what the server reports.

Prerequisites

  • Claude Code installed with MCP support (recent enough that claude mcp add --transport http exists).
  • A network path to https://catalog-mcp.dometrain.com (corporate proxies sometimes block new domains).

From your project root (or any directory, depending on scope):

claude mcp add --transport http dometrain https://catalog-mcp.dometrain.com/mcp

Share with the repo (creates or updates .mcp.json at the project root, suitable for this workshop):

claude mcp add --transport http dometrain --scope project https://catalog-mcp.dometrain.com/mcp

Then start or restart Claude Code and run /mcp. Confirm dometrain is connected and tools appear.

Option B, Hand-written .mcp.json

At the repository root:

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "dometrain": {
      "type": "http",
      "url": "https://catalog-mcp.dometrain.com/mcp"
    }
  }
}

Reload the session and check /mcp. Merge with existing mcpServers keys if the file already exists.

Using it in chat

You do not need to memorize tool names: describe what you want in natural language and let Claude Code pick the right MCP tool, or ask explicitly.

Search-oriented:

Use the Dometrain MCP to search courses related to Docker and C#. Summarize the top 3 matches with title and one-line description.

Browse structure:

List learning paths from the Dometrain MCP, then pick one and summarize what it contains.

Blog + pricing (good smoke test):

From Dometrain MCP: fetch recent blog post titles, then summarize get_pricing output in plain language for someone buying team licenses.

If a call fails, check /mcp (connection), TLS / proxy errors in the terminal, and whether the server name matches what you configured (dometrain).

Workshop checklist

Add the server (CLI or .mcp.json).

/mcp → connected + tools visible.

Run one search prompt and one read prompt (course or blog).

Disconnect when done if you do not want it in every session (remove from config or disable in /mcp).
